Ethics (also known as moral philosophy) is a branch of philosophy that addresses questions about morality—that is, concepts such as good vs. bad, noble vs. ignoble, right vs. wrong, and matters of justice, love, peace, and virtue.

Major branches of ethics include:

  • meta-ethics, about the theoretical meaning and reference of moral propositions and how their truth-values (if any) may be determined;
  • normative ethics, about the practical means of determining a moral course of action;
  • applied ethics, about how moral outcomes can be achieved in specific situations;
  • moral psychology, about how moral capacity or moral agency develops and what its nature is; and
  • descriptive ethics, about what moral values people actually abide by.

Within each of these branches are many different schools of thought and still further sub-fields of study.

What is ethics and how do we manage ethics?
Q. I am writing a paper on ethics. I was hoping to get some opinions to include showing the wide range of opinions people have on the definition of ethics. Also how to manage ethics??? I would greatly appreciate your responses. Whatever. I am not asking for you to do my home work for me. I have already written a 5 page document. I was trying to spice it up with other opinions of the subject from general people. It's a controversial topic is my main point.

A. Ethics is a method of achieving an honest relationship between organizations or companies and the general public. Ethics are usually (but not always) a written code that is managed through the use of penalties such as censure or banishment from the organization. Mostly ethics relies on the individual for enforcement. Ethics takes what is law and turns it into a practical methodology by interpreting those laws to fit the circumstances. Basically, ethics are a way to keep people away from the appearance of evil, if I may use a biblical phrase.

What constitutes an ethics violation in politics? If you knew Blago was trying to sell the senate seat but ?
Q. did nothing, wouldn't that be an ethics violation? Or at least it would show you aren't the reformer you claim to be. I said "IF" According to the tapes of Blago's comments, Obama offered only his 'appreciation' & Blago was none too happy about that. Well, if that was the reply from Obama, then it looks like Blago let Obama know he was selling the seat. IF that is substanciated by other tapes, THEN is that an ethics violation.

A. This is called accessory to the crime. By not reporting this Obama is guilty of a felony. We are sending people to prison for knowing about the 911 attacks and not reporting. We send people to prison for knowing about drug activities and not filing a report. The only reason that Obama has not been charged is that he is entirely too well connected.

Ethics (from the Ancient Greek "ethikos", meaning "arising from habit"), a major branch of philosophy, is the study of value or quality. It covers the analysis and employment of concepts such as right, wrong, good, evil, justice and responsibility.

  • The most optimistic ethics have all begun by emphasizing the element of failure involved in the condition of man; without failure, no ethics; for a being who, from the very start, would be an exact co-incidence with himself, in a perfect plenitude, the notion of having-to-be would have no meaning. One does not offer an ethics to a God. It is impossible to propose any to man if one defines him as nature, as something given. The so-called psychological or empirical ethics manage to establish themselves only by introducing surreptitiously some flaw within the manthing which they have first defined.
  • Poetry is an ethic. By ethic I mean a secret code of behavior, a discipline constructed and conducted according to the capabilities of a man who rejects the falsifications of the categorical imperative.
  • Strong ethics keep corporations healthy. Poor ethics make companies sick. Values are the immune system of every organisation.
